Well, I’m not going to dare you to stick your tongue on a
flagpole, but I am going to dare you. I
dare you to join me on a great adventure.
In fact, I am going to breech proper daring etiquette and jump to the
dreaded triple dog dare. So here it is, I triple dog dare you to join me in
reading through the entire Bible in 90-days. Yes, that’s right, I triple dog
dare you!
I can probably guess what you’re thinking, “I can’t read the
entire Bible in 90-days.” But guess
what, it really is possible. Let me
explain it this way. Each year for Thanksgiving
we roast a turkey that weighs between 18 and 24 pounds. By the time the Turkey is finished cooking it
smells so good I want to eat the whole thing.
On a side note, I’m not really gluttonous; it’s just one of my favorite
meals – especially when my wife, Lisa, makes homemade turkey noodle soup with
the leftovers. Now, it simply is not
possible for me to eat the entire turkey at one time, let alone over a few days
time. I can, however, cut the turkey up
into smaller pieces and finish it over the course of a week or two.
Reading the Bible in 90-days is no different than eating a
turkey. No, it’s not possible to read it
all in a day or two, but it is possible to read it over the course of 90-days
when you break it into more manageable, “bite-size,” segments. To give you another perspective, one resource
splits it up into 12 page sections. Everyone
can read 12 pages per day for 90-days. So again, I triple dog dare you to join me in this great
adventure through God’s word.
Now, according
to the “rules” of a dare, you can’t refuse.
Of course, in reality, you can refuse, but you really shouldn’t. You shouldn’t because the benefits are
tremendous. Imagine what your journey
with God will be like if you spend the next 90-days (starting 1-9-12) soaking up God’s word. What a great way to start the new year. I also purposefully scheduled the 90-days to end
on Easter Sunday. Imagine what that day
could be like having spent the previous 90-days reading through the amazing
truths that are fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
I’m not asking you to understand every deep concept
contained in the scriptures. I’m not
asking that you explain every difficult passage. I simply want you to read through the
scriptures and let the Holy Spirit speak to you in the process. In doing so,
the Holy Spirit will reveal new understandings and truths that you may have
never seen before.
So, one more time, I triple dog dare you to join me on this
great adventure through God’s word during the next 90-days. If you choose to join me, I will send you
regular reminders, resources, and encouragements to complete the journey. I promise you, if you faithfully complete the
journey, you will have a closer relationship with God then before you started.
